Barrack & Chelsea
Ballack expressed hope of returning to Chelsea before the end of 2007. Ballack was injured in April 2007 and has not returned. Regardless, Roberto expressed hope for a speedy recovery for Ballack and that Chelsea could continue to win.

This past Friday, we launched an exciting new program, Liberty Decides '08. The program is a bold one, as it establishes a competitive process for our pre-nomination presidential candidates.
The rules of the program are pretty clear. To participate and be considered a Liberty Decides '08 "qualified" candidate, individuals must meet three criteria:
• They must be constitutionally qualified and be willing to accept the LP nomination per our national bylaws.
• They must have filed with the Federal Election Commission.
• They must have raised at least $5,000 for the LNC or for one of our state affiliates for ballot access purposes.
Once qualified, candidates will be promoted through the Internet, mail and within our publication, LP News. Qualified candidates will be ranked in the order of the funds they have raised for the program.
Additionally, 40% of funds raised through the program will be set aside for 2008. Once our delegates decide the presidential candidate in our national convention next year, the funds will be used for promotion and media in coordination with our presidential nominee.
If all goes well with this program, we'll have a small chest of funds set aside to be used as soon as our presidential candidate is chosen. I'm excited about this, as we'll be able to kick-start the campaign on our own, since we know the mainstream media won't do it for us.
Liberty Decides '08 is a win-win for our delegates, the LP as a whole and our candidates.
• Delegates will benefit from this "interview process" and will be able to make a deeply informed decision. A significant reason why we run a presidential candidate is to grow the party. This is done by fundraising and attracting new members to the LP. Liberty Decides '08 tests the skills of our candidates BEFORE our national convention.
• The Libertarian Party will benefit as state parties and the national party will receive fundraising and recruitment assistance from the field of candidates. While 40% of the funds raised for the LNC will be set aside, the remaining 60% will go toward "core functions" such as ballot access, media and new member recruitment.
• Our presidential candidates will benefit because they are now in a transparent, competitive process that Libertarians can get excited about. Candidates qualified for the program will receive more promotion and, if they win the nomination, their campaign should get more help than ever before from the national party.

El presidente de Fedecámaras, José Manuel González, reiteró su desacuerdo con la reforma constitucional impulsada por el Ejecutivo, porque a su juicio los intereses del país son superiores. Durante una entrevista en Noticiero Venevisión, González descartó que el organismo empresarial tenga algún “plan B” y sostuvo que su único plan es el bien de Venezuela. Pidió al Tribunal Supremo de Justicia hacer prevalecer el estado de derecho y tomar la decisión de postergar el referendo previsto para el 2 de diciembre
El rector del Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE), Vicente Díaz, señaló su malestar por la decisión del organismo comicial de sacar del aire una propaganda vinculada al bloque del "No". La cuña, denominada La carnicería objeta la propuesta de reforma constitucional, específicamente en lo relacionado a la propiedad privada.
El coordinador nacional de Asuntos Electorales de Copei, Enrique Naime, sostiene que es importante que la oposición vaya unida al proceso electoral del 2 de diciembre con el fin de evitar cualquier intento de fraude. El dirigente exhortó a la población a votar en esa jornada y luego esperar en su centro de votación los resultados.

Tomando en cuenta los cambios inevitables que vendran en Cuba, decidi de sacar de mi baul de recuerdos un articulo escrito por este humile servidor. Este articulo fue escrita durante la madrugada del 1er de Agosto de 2,006 a raiz del “traspaso” de poderes “provisionalmente” de los hermanos Castro. Lo dedico a mi Cuba, la Comunidad Cubana en El Exterior, y Mis Hermanos Latinos en el Mundo.Mi articulo fue inspirada en la obra “Los Versos Sencillos” de Jose Marti y espero un dia que toda America incluyendo Cuba acepta este articulo.
LIBERTAD, IGUALDAD, RESPONSABILIDAD

En el a~no 1976, el grupo espa~nol Laredo lanzo un disco de Pop con los Versos Sencillos de Jose Marti [El Procer de Cuba]. En 1979, [en Venezuela], vi una pelicula [“Los Versos Sencillo”] basada en esa obra discografica en una feria de cine independiente.
El argumento de esa pelicula era la libertad. Me acorde de un segmento dedicado a una mujer en cadenas con la ciudadania haciendo trabajo rutinario sin rumbo. El fondo era nocturno. Durante el segmento, la noche se convierte en dia con la desaparicion de las cadenas y la ciudadania disfrutando de su nueva libertad.
Desde el 31 de Julio 2006 a las 9:30PM [Hora de Miami], la sorpresa de lo que sucedio en Cuba fue motivo para festejar. Pero hay que recordar que Cuba todavia sigue un estado totalitario con un hombre reemplazando otro hombre [aunque sea provisional]. Hay muchos factores sucediendo en Cuba desconocido dentro y fuera de Las Perlas de las Antillas.
Estamos listo para el reto de la libertad y la reconstruccion o estamos condenados a cumplir con los versos de una cancion del grupo Los 3 Sudamericanos [Belter Espa~na 1968] : “Tu Como Yo No Ha Conocido La Primavera”?
La Libertad no es un caramelo que se adquiere en una tienda. La Libertad no es acudir a las urnas cada equis tiempo para cambiar lideres. La Libertad es una responsabilidad, una cultura de amor y un estilo de vida. La Libertad es poder aceptar a los demas por su interior. La Libertad es poder viajar, criticar, hablar, vivir y dejar vivir.
La Libertad es poder establecer un hogar, un negocio sin la interferencia de un estado omnipotente. La Libertad es controlar su propio destino sin concederlo a una fuerza extra~na.
La Libertad no se construye en un dia. La Libertad es como la Familia y el Matrimonio. Hay que cultivar La Libertad, cuidarla, apreciarla. Debemos aprender de los errores del pasado para evitar un retroceso hacia una dictadura [en eso Europa y Israel ha tenido exito.].
Es el deber de cada ciudadano de tomar las riendas de su destino para recuperar sus libertades y/o defender sus libertades. Estamos listo? El tiempo dira el si o el no.

AGRADECIMIENTO Y VACACIONES
El Forastero de Ohio quiere agradecer a su publico por elegirme como su preferido. Quiero agradecer el Noticiero Alvarez Galloso por premiarme por el mejor libro [en lulu.com]. Dedico mi premios a los oprimidos de la tierra como en Cuba, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Belarus, y los demas en el Continente Americano [oprimidos por los Comunistas, Republicanos, y Democratas]. Tambien dedico mi premio a mi colegas en la lucha para la revolucion pacifica libertaria.
Aprovechando del premio, estare de vacaciones hasta Enero 2008. Con la excepcion de una noticia caliente, espero pasar mi tiempo con familia comiendo lechon, arroz, frijoles negros, y bailar pachanga.
Estare sustituido mientras tanto por Fotos de Navidad con alguna intervencion de Paulina La Puta Dorada. Ma~nana, Paulina La Puta Dorada mostrara como fortalecer las tetas y culos. Creo que las mujeres estaran contenta con este segmento que vendra ma~nana.

Hay personas como politicos que ganan en exceso mientras los medicos, las enfermeras, los escritores ganan menos.

La Manera para resolver el problema de la inmigracion es facil. En vez de muros y presas, los EEUU deben acudir a las urnas para reemplazar a los Republicanos/Democratas con un Gobierno Libertario y su programa de meno interferencia del gobierno, respeto, y convivencia. Debe existor la responsabilidad personal con una interpretacion de la Constitucion como debe ser.Despues, deben forzar a los ciudadanos de los EEUU que no quieren trabajar hacer el trabajo de los indocumentados.

A pesar de que Bush esta cambiando su opinion acerca de Corea del Norte, Politicos Japoneses visitaron a Bush, los Republicanos, y los Democratas para exigir que Corea del Norte sea mantenida en la lista de paises avocado el terrorismo.
Japon esta en su derecho en exigir a los EEUU mas restricciones hacia Corea del Norte. Acuerdate que Corea del Norte mantiene algunos japoneses secuestrado por ellos como prisioneros para utilizar en la proxima ficha diplomatica [si todavia siguen con vida].
Acuerdate que Corea del Norte es una amenaza para Japon pues explotaron misiles que volaron por encima de territorio japones hasta llegar hacia la islas fuera de la costa de Alaska a principios de 2000 y 2001.
Hay que tener mano dura con Corea del Norte pues el dialogo nunca funciono con esta gente.

El Presidente de la UEFA Michel Platini [durante una entrevista con la BBC] se atrevio emitir la declaracion expresando su duda sobre Inglaterra siendo anfitrion de la Copa Mundial 2018. Platini se atrevio decir que “apoyaria Rusia o Holanda].
Platini [UEFA] y Blatter [FIFA] son sinonimos con los versos de un Bolero de Fernando Alvarez y El Conjunto Casino [Cuba 1950’s] que decia “Bajate de Las Nubes y Ven Aqui A La Realidad”. Platini y Blatter han tenido un exceso de a~nos como dirigentes que quizas Deben dimitir.
Ademas, Inglaterra no fue anfitrion desde 1966, es un pais que logro controlar sus hinchas comparado con Rusia. Los Hinchas de Inglaterra fueron asaltado por Hinchas de Rusia durante la competencia Inglaterra contra Rusia en Euro 2008.
Otra vez, Platini y Blatter Deben renunciar con Inglaterra siendo sede de la Copa Mundial de 2018.

Amo El Equipo Femenino de Futbol Estadounidense
Hay que apoyar el equipo femenino de futbol en los EEUU. La razon ha sido los exitos en el deportes y fuera.
Dentro del deporte, lograron victorias que no se podia imaginar gracias a Mia Hamm y Julie Fouty.
Fuera del campo, el equipo femenino de futbol estadounidense visitaron a las tropas de la zona desmilitarizada entre Corea del Norte y Corea del Sur durante las pruebas nucleares de Kim Jong Il. Ellas animaron a los soldados con su apoyo moral, un juego, y la amistad.
Por eso y mucho mas, amo al equipo femenino de futbol estadounidense
Apoyo a Los Estudiantes de Venezuela
Los estudiantes merecen nuestro apoyo.
Para los detractores
Los estudiantes quieren libertad no quieren esclavitud como existe en Cuba. Ellos quieren quedarse en Venezuela y librarse. Ellos no quieren jugar el juego de Chavez y Washington donde Washington apoya a Chavez mientras Chavez reprime y la gente buscan refugio en EEUU. Los Chavistas igual como los Comunistas, Republicanos, y Democratas deben largarse del Continente Americano.
Es mejor luchar que estar con los brazos cruzados. Polonia cuando era pais comunista siguieron en revuelta y protesta contra los Comunistas durante el periodo 1944-1989. La Primera Revuelta fue en 1956, seguido por 1970, y 1980. Aunque el Dictador Militar de Polonia impuso la ley marcial, los polacos siguieron hasta lograr su libertad. Reconozco que Gorbachev suspendio la ayuda pero los Polacos no se quedaron con los brazos cruzados, alzaron hasta lograr su libertad

Phillies: End Draft Registration
Not long after the United States entered the war in Iraq, Congressional Democrats introduced legislation to reinstate the draft. At the time, many felt that the legislation was more as a political stunt than a plan to generate more troops.
Now the army has begun its year with fewer recruits signed up than any year since 1973. In response, Congress has proposed giving citizenship to illegal immigrants to volunteer for the Army. The State Department has deployed in Iraq a host of mercenaries, hired guns infamous for shooting with abandon at our Iraqi allies. Democrats are once again floating the idea of a draft.
"It's time to remove temptation from the Bush Administration and Congress," said George Phillies, former Army Reservist and front-running Libertarian Presidential candidate for President. "It's time to end Selective Service Registration and end this notion of a draft before George Bush launches another war."
Phillies pointed out the long-time Army position: It will take longer and cost more to build training camps for an army of draftees than it takes to process them. Money spent on Selective Service is money wasted: It should go to training and equipping our fighting army.
"Warfare in central Asia is not like World War II, with hundreds of riflemen charging up hills. To capture Osama Bin Laden, we need precision operations carried out by small special operations units. That kind of military requires motivated professionals, not conscripts with no interest in fighting.
If the military needs more men and women, it should start by ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and allow openly gay and lesbian soldiers to serve. To some people that's as radical as General Patton's suggestion over sixty years ago that he should put African-American riflemen in the trenches with whites. Patton was right. We should learn from our mistakes.
"After 9-11 men and women from all walks of life volunteered in record numbers. They did not need to be drafted. Their good faith was betrayed by their commander in chief and his war in Iraq and now recruiting numbers are down. End the betrayal, end the War on Iraq, and our military's problems will solve themselves.
"I unequivocally oppose a draft. The Libertarian Party unequivocally opposes a draft. Vote your conscience. Vote Libertarian. Vote for Phillies."

El Rey de Arabia Saudita tendra audiencia con el Papa Benedicto XVI en el Vaticano. Primera vez en la historia de ambos paises. EEUU, Kucinich, Bush, Cheney
Segun una encuesta, la mayoria de los EEUU apoya la destuitucion de Bush/Cheney antes de las elecciones presidenciales en los EEUU. Por eso, Kucinich presento una resolucion antes del Congreso pidiendo la destitucion de Bush y Cheney antes de los comicios Presidenciales de 2008.
Aunque es una idea fenomenal, acuerdate que Kucinich destruyo una ciudad [Cleveland] en sus dos a~nos [1977-1979] como Alcalde peleando con todo el mundo en Cleveland, sobreviviendo atentados de la Mafia, peleando con la Prensa, su Jefe de Policia, El Vocero, y los comerciantes.
Ademas, Kucinich fue recipiente de un peo cortesia del Forastero de Ohio en Enero 1977. La razon fue por insultar al Forastero con un dedo medio.

CULOISMO
En noviembre de 2006 el Forastero de Ohio publicó la obra “EL CULO ES CIENCIA”. En la primera parte de su trabajo señaló que el CULOISMO se frustró en varios países, pero sigue en pie como ciencia en el corazón de los pueblos. Continuó que en vista de la situación por la que atraviesan algunos países que lo construían, los entrometidos y chismosos hablan ruidosamente del “fin del CULOISMO” y arguyen que la misma idea CULOISTA es una equivocación. Pero, con seguridad –indicó– el CULO resurgirá y triunfará al fin por su cientificidad y veracidad.
La sociedad basada en la represion de cagar y tirar peos –señaló– crea inevitablemente conflictos y conlleva el estre~nimiento con opresión a los CULOS populares e impide que éstas realicen su independencia para cagar y tirar peos. Para alcanzar la independencia de los CULOS populares es preciso pasar de la sociedad cimentada en el AGUANTAR UN PEO a la CULOISTA sustentada en el CULO, LA MIERDA, Y LOS PEOS, lo que constituye una imperiosa demanda del desarrollo de la historia.
El CULOISMO –argumentó– está fundamentado en el criterio y la actitud sobre el ser humano. En el 2007, hemos visto casos de abusos por los arbitros. Incluso hay acusaciones de favoritismo. Nuestro futbol sufre del problema del arbitro. Propongo que la FIFA toma medidas para que los arbitros comienzan sus estudios en esa profesion para poder obtener una licencia [mediante un examen] para su profesion.

Un Viernes por la noche [2 de Noviembre 2007] sali con mi esposa hacia la feria de las pinturas en Coral Gables Florida. La Feria ocurre cada primer viernes en cada mes y es also agradable.
Durante la feria, mi esposa y yo estabamos escuchando un cantautor cuyo nombre es Nil Lara. Como me gusta el arte en su expresion sencillo, acercque donde estaba cantando Nil Lara y senti la musica en mi alma. Claro, el es Cubano Americano nacido en Nueva Jersey [comparado con el autor que nacio en Ohio].
Independiente del lugar del nacimiento, las canciones que me llamo la atencion eran "Money Makes the Monkey Dance" [La Plata hace bailar el Mono] y "Una Vida Simple".
"Money Makes The Monkey Dance" habla de la verdad que afecta la sociedad en todas las esferas. Me hace recoprdar de la cancion de salsa de la cantante Arabela "Cuanto Tienes Cuanto Vales" pues por desgracia, el valor de la persona es debido a lo que tienes en lo exterior en vez del interior.
"Una Vida Simple" fue una cancion que hace evocar la trova cubana, los boleros interpretado por Jose Feliciano, y la musica folclorica de los campos de los EEUU en la decada de los 1960's debido a la simplicidad. Nil Lara interpreto la cancion con su voz y la guitarra. Tambien "Una Vida Simple" es un llamado a la multitud para vivir una vida tranquila sin las complicaciones.
Estas dos canciones y otras obras escrita por Nil Lara son las razones por su exito en America del Norte y Europa. Incluso, Nil Lara da vida al mundo musical que parece ha sido afectado por el artificial [con ciertas excepciones como Mana, Aterciopelados, Juanes, Nelly Furtado, y Julieta Venegas].
Recomienco a la gente que si pueden, pasa por tal feria o vaya a un concierto de un creador de una trova para el Siglo XXI. Nil Lara

Wigan 0-2 Chelsea
Chelsea plays Wigan in their home place and it was like heaven on earth.
Chelsea started the game by dominating it in its entirety with Lampard and Belletti stunning Wigan with two goals. Roberto was very happy and enjoying every minute of the game.
Wigan did its best and tried to show that they were able to play against Chelsea. Wigan also underestimated Chelsea thinking that it had fallen apart after the Great One left. Roberto himself had faith that Chelsea would win this one and prayed for this victory before the game started. So much for Divine Intervention.
In spite of the substitutions and bookings, Chelsea was actually stronger than usual and rumbling towards victory. Drogba was able to hold on until 75 minutes of this crucial game. Chelsea appears to have placed its troubles behind to go to bigger and better things. Maybe there is a new history being written for Chelsea. Again, Chelsea and Stamford Bridge deserve nothing but the best.
After the game, I went to a coffee shop in Miami Florida. I had a conversation with a fellow Chelsea Supporter about the game against Wigan. He was happy and he celebrated with a big cup of espresso for everybody in the coffee shop.

NIL LARA
NIL LARA [Author: Roberto Carlos Alvarez-Galloso]
I had the experience of going to a cultural fair which is held in Coral Gables Florida every first Friday of the Month. This occurred on the day of the 3rd of November 2007. As I arrived at the festival, there was a singer who I knew existed with songs that were familiar. The open air concert had an air of familiarity with the singer inviting people to enjoy the music.
His name is Nil Lara and his music which was written by him is a refreshing alternative to the fast food music churned out by the musical conglomerates. Nil Lara is one of the few US Latins born in the USA who has been able to combine the Old Cuban Trova Style Music with some of the Folk Rock Like Music that existed in an era when singer songwriters wrote from the heart.
After the concert, I had the opportunity to talk with Nil Lara and his band which was the equivalent of being in heaven while on earth. Their down to earth approach in engaging the public and the music won a convert. I bought his CD “Nil Lara” and a Silver Ring from his band [who had a kiosk at the side of the concert]. I also had the opportunity to obtain his autograph on my CD and he received my business card as a souvenir of the reunion. I am now a believer in his music and that his music is a beginning of a rennaiscence for great music.
Nil Lara’s song tells a truth that few people dare to express on the outside. “Money Makes the Monkey Dance” evokes a reality that exists in today’s world with our politicians and businessmen doing deals just to get the money regardless of whether the deal was a legitimate one or not. It is a song that exposes our leaders [or at least most of them] for what they have become, a group of faceless hypocrites who say anything to get elected only to break their promises. This also includes those who say anything to get into power only to destroy democracy and freedom and replace it with a puritanical dictatorship that controls all forms of thoughts and expressions.
It is this song that inspired me to think and do all that is possible for a better world.
“I Will Be Free” evokes the desire of people to be free to decide for themselves what they want in life without the interference of outside forces. It is an anthem for Universal Freedom that only an artist could express. “Baro” and “Vida Mas Simple” were other songs that evoke the greatness of Nil Lara.
“Baro” is one of the songs composed and interpreted by Nil Lara that draws from the Cuban Trova and Afro Cuban Beats which makes the song worth listening. The words to the song are also great.
“Vida Mas Simple” which was interpreted with the vocals of Nil Lara while playing his guitar evokes a desire of a return to a simpler life. It is this simpler lifestyle that is almost disappearing in the throngs of sordid ideologies and beliefs which torture the mind. “Vida Mas Simple” was an inspiration to go and find an alternative lifestyle that evokes relaxation and liberty. It is through the simpler things that one can attain personal liberty. “Vida Mas Simple” was a mixture of Cuban Trova, Bolero, and Folk Rock Music of the soft kind. In my opinion, this is one of Nil Lara’s greatest Songs for all eternity. “Vida Mas Simple” was one song that took over my soul.
Nil Lara was born in New Jersey to Cuban Parents and lived between the USA and Venezuela. During his life, he managed to absorb the cultures of Cuba, Venezuela, and the USA to create a truly new American Music which defies classification. Unfortunately our world does not allow such independence. Regardless, he has plowed the paths for future singers with album releases such as “Smile”, “My First Child”, “The Monkey”, “Nil Lara”, “Testimony”, and “DA” and tours throughout North America, Europe, as well as singing with greats such as Lenny Kravitz, Blues Travelers, and Natalie Marchant.
His music has even appeared in soundtracks for movies. One example has been “Fighting For My Love” in the Scrubbs Soundtrack. “Fighting For My Love” was another song that evokes the realities of today’s society. It had me reminding of my days of looking for a true love until I found it with my current wife Marlene.
“My First Child” reminds me of my daughter Veronica and I have played this song for her. She likes it since she is my first [and only child]. The songs called “Baby”, “Bleeding”, “Crawl”, and “Mama’s Chant” were also excellent.
Anyone who wants to see and hear a true singer songwriter for today’s era should see Nil Lara. Nil Lara will be an artist that people talk about in the future when all other stars have long disappeared from the limelight. Why? Because Nil Lara and His Music ARE THE REAL THING WITH NO ARTIFICIAL COLOURS!!!!

MESSAGE FROM THE SECOND REPUBLIC OF VERMONT
EDITORIAL: U.S. Out Of Vermont: Long Live the “Untied States”
Last June, the Associated Press’ Vermont Bureau ran a news story entitled “Vermont Independence Movement Gains Traction.” Picked up by the national news wire, the article, written by Vermont Bureau Chief John Curran, made its way around the world via the Internet, prompting words of encouragement and ridicule, condemnation and support, from citizens all over the world. And, at Montpelier’s “Riverwalk Records” on State Street, one of the season’s hottest selling items became a simple black T-shirt reading “U.S. Out Of Vermont.” Despite the steep price - $20 each - the store sold more than 500 of them this past summer alone.
“U.S. Out Of Vermont.” How to explain the popularity of such sentiment?
Some of the energy is faddish, no doubt, while other left-leaning Bush-bashers reflexively point to, as a primary cause, the past seven years of “King George” and Vice Resident Cheney’s Beltway reign.
But “U.S. Out Of Vermont?” This from a state that has enthusiastically contributed, to the rest of the country, Ethan Allen’s defiance, John Deere’s plow, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, Robert Frost’s poetry, Joseph Bentley’s science, Grace Potter’s music, John Dewey’s pedagogy, and more pancake syrup than you can shake a maple limb at? This from a state that has willingly sent its own sons (and now daughters, too, in Iraqi desert and the Afghani mountains) to fight and die on behalf of America since the independent republic of Vermont joined the United States in 1791?
Perhaps the citizens of Vermont, along with the rest of the world, are beginning to realize that the United States is now longer the democratic republic we once were.
Indeed, as Americans, we are now citizens of an Empire ruled by an ever-more-powerful military/industrial/media/energy complex.
And the problem, the tragedy, of the United States is one of scale. We are simply too BIG.
We are a nation where each lone Congressman down the road from K Street represents more than 635,000 individual citizens. We are a country where even state and local elections are now (mostly) conducted via computerized touch screens monitored by proprietary corporate computer codes. We live in a surveillance state where all of our daily transactions are increasingly monitored, collected and stored by a faceless few whose own visages we never see. We move in the midst of what former Bush I HUD regulator Catherine Austin Fitts calls an imperial “tapeworm economy,” a system created by an unholy alliance between the captains of D.C.’s beltway and the captains of industry – “corporatism” born out of the fires of Lincoln’s “civil war.”
What’s hot now, in our globalized 21st century world, is what author Naomi Klein refers to (in her forthcoming book) as The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism: simply stated, the “shock and awe” creation of stupendous profits by the very few through exploiting the misery of the many. This includes war-making and counter-“terrorism” efforts (increasingly confused as the same thing) or the profiting from other disasters: real (Katrina), imagined (Avian Flu), or manufactured (9/11).
This is what the U.S., as an Empire, has become, as we enter the 21st century.
And no amount of big heartedness, generosity, or good will – qualities that actual working Americans of all political stripes possess, in spades – will turn the ship of Empire away from a rendezvous with destiny, in the form of climate change, global Peak Oil, an endless war on “terror,” global financial meltdown, and the fruitless (though very profitable, for some) pursuit of an imperial policy of “full spectrum dominance” – U.S. the Colossus attempting to bestride the entire world, and (I’m not kidding) outer space, too.
Unless.
Unless we “untie” the United States.
U.S. out of Vermont. And Kansas. And Florida. And Mississippi. And Ohio. And California. Indeed, citizen movements in no fewer than twenty-five other states are exploring secession. Vermont is not alone here.
The “Untied States.”
But where do we start?
We start where we live. And work. And play. We’ve been exploring this question for more than two years now – in print and online.
Here’s a short list:
We start with “homestead security:” inventing new forms of renewable energy to power our homes, our workplaces, and our communities.
We start with “food sovereignty:” learning how to grow, harvest and store our own food again, and supporting our struggling family farmers all over the country who are doing the same.
We start with “people power:” re-inventing local and mass transportations systems that use less energy more efficiently.
We start with genuine financial freedom: collectively investing in local economies and local currencies – the Berkshares project, Ithaca Hours, and our own Burlington Bread all provide models and lessons for what works and what doesn’t.
And this list is just a beginning.
Ultimately, untying the Empire in this new century will not begin in the DC corridors of power, or corporate shareholder meetings, or the control rooms at CNN and FOX news.
It will begin, not with the U.S., but with us.
U.S. out of Vermont.
Long live the “Untied States.”

Una comisión de estudiantes, encabezada por los dirigentes Stalin González y Yon Goicochea, se reunió con los miembros del Consejo Nacional Electoral, a quienes expusieron la necesidad de postergar el referendo de la reforma constitucional. Los estudiantes, que habían marchado junto a sectores de la sociedad civil de forma pacífica desde la Universidad Central de Venezuela hasta el ente comicial, entregaron un documento a los rectores del CNE en el que exigen respeto a los derechos electorales y la postergación de la consulta. Luego de la reunión, efectivos de los cuerpos de seguridad tuvieron que disolver la manifestación al presentarse algunas escaramuzas entre un sector estudiantil y la Policía Metropolitana.
Los dirigentes estudiantiles, Freddy Guevara y Stalin González, rechazaron la violencia que de parte y parte de desató en la movilización realizada este jueves en contra de la reforma a la Carta Magna. Asimismo, anunciaron que el próximo miércoles saldrán nuevamente a las calles a mostrar su descontento en contra de los cambios al texto legal, esta vez hasta el Tribunal Supremo de Justicia
A primeras horas de la mañana de este jueves fueron desalojados por la Guardia Nacional del Tribunal Supremo de Justicia (TSJ), los dirigentes del partido Primero Justicia quienes se encontraban de vigilia en el organismo con el fin de exigir una decisión sobre la votación por bloques en el referéndum.
La tasa de inflación en Venezuela se disparó 2,4% en octubre pasado, superior al 1,3 por ciento del mes previo, lo que llevó el índice interanual del indicador hasta el 17,2 por ciento, indicó el Banco Central de Venezuela. Con este resultado, la variación acumulada del IPC al décimo mes del año se ubicó en 13,6%

Chelsea 4-3 Leicester
Chelsea and Leicester played at Stamford Bridge and it was a tense game.
After the first goal by Mc Auley for Chelsea, Roberto was afraid that the Blues were going to have a rough ride. The first half appeared to be a rough ride until Lambard scored in the 20th and 29th minute. Roberto was celebrating with a full plate of chicken and rice with a hot coffee. Roberto was also wearing his Chelsea Cap and Chelsea T Shirt.
The first half was in Chelsea’s favour but the second half was a shocker with two goals by Leciester. With Leicester leading three to two, both teams were in a state of desperation with substitutions while others like Ben Haim, Sidwell, Newton, Sidwell were booked for anti professional behaviour.
Chelsea was able to save itself by scoring two goals by Shevchemko and Lambard. It was a great moment of a hat trick that reminded Roberto when he saw the Miami FC pull a similar hat trick at Tropical Park in Miami Florida.
Congratulations Chelsea. You made my day and I was able to enjoy my Halloween with this victory.

Washington, D.C. – The Libertarian Party says that the use of torture "should not even be a question," while commenting on the current debate over the use of "waterboarding," a torture technique that simulates the psychological feeling of drowning. The debate over the use of torture may become the key topic in the confirmation hearing of Attorney General appointee Michael Mukasey. "The issue of whether or not the United States should engage in torture should not even be a question for any civilized society," says Shane Cory, executive director of the Libertarian Party.
"The question of whether or not torture is permissible, regardless of legality, is simple: absolutely not," Cory continued. "In a civilized society that values the sanctity of life, torture should not be permitted in any way, shape, or form. The United States should set the standard for how the world treats captured prisoners. We should not lower ourselves down to the depraved levels of the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11. Torture is disgusting, abhorrent and beyond every moral standard of Western civilization. Why it is even an issue for debate is beyond me."
The Libertarian Party believes the torture of persons in U.S. captivity should be illegal, stating the effectiveness of torture has not been proven, especially compared to alternative means of interrogation that do not involve physical abuse. Given its unproven track record of effectiveness and moral reprehensibility, the Libertarian Party condemns its use by the United States.
"Instead of asking ourselves if torture should be used, perhaps we should be asking if this is the way we would expect our soldiers to be treated should they be captured," Cory concluded. "The answer to that question should be the answer to both: no."
